The Friends of the Flaxmill Maltings are launching a photography project to celebrate the Flax Mill Maltings and the people who have been inspired by it.
The Flax Mill Maltings is a unique and internationally important site, containing seven listed buildings including the world’s first iron framed building. Since 1797 the Flax Mill Maltings has played a significant role in the social, economical and architectural development of Shrewsbury, Shropshire and beyond.
Over it’s history the Flax Mill Maltings and the people who worked and lived there have been photographed by a huge number of people. Now as the Flax Mill Maltings is about to begin it’s transformation into a visitor attraction as well as a place for learning, workspaces and community use, the Friends want to collate images new and old into a photographic book.
This publication will celebrate the Flax Mill Maltings and the people who have been inspired by the site and it’s history. It will not be a historical record of the site, but a collection of a range of aspects of the buildings and the wider site that have captured the eye of photographers, visitors and volunteers over the years.
The photographic book will be sold to raise funds for the Friends.
The project is being arranged and managed by the Friends of the Flaxmill Maltings Community Arts Group (FMCA).
