Friends of the Flaxmill Maltings appoint new Manager

I am delighted to announce details of our new manager who will be taking up the post on September 18th.

The post comes as a result of the first round success in the bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund and is funded by their £465,00 grant to support the development of a second stage submission. The bid was submitted by Shropshire Council on behalf of the Partnership comprising themselves, English Heritage, the Friends and the HCA.

Lisa Cowley currently lives in Bilbrook, Wolverhampton and is the Campaign Manager for the national Conservation Volunteers. She has wide experience including National Programmes Manager for the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers and roles in the Youth Action Network and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds.

She was successful against a number of very strong candidates following a national recruitment campaign.

Lisa will now support the Friends in their on-going work to provide access to the internationally important site while providing a wide range of learning, recreational, cultural and community based activities at the site.

Alan Mosley, Chair of the Friends said: “We are lucky to be able to appoint Lisa given her abilities, her great experience and record of success. After two years of significant achievements we need this kind of support to build our capacity to undertake future roles and to help deliver our exciting plans. “

Lisa Cowley said: “I am delighted to be supporting the Friends of Flaxmill Maltings to implement this innovative project. As the Friends Manager I will be working closely with all the current and future Friends as well as the wider community and our partners at Shropshire Council and English Heritage to implement the vision for Flaxmill Maltings.

I am committed to supporting people to come together to engage with and develop projects and activities that will benefit themselves, their community and their local area now and for the future. I have a wealth of experience in delivering and co-ordinating local, regional and national charity activities. I am looking forward to utilising my skills in volunteer support, programme development and management in a location and sector I am passionate about.”
