As part of the Darwin Festival 2020, the Friends of the Flaxmill Maltings invite you to:
KISSING LINEN BEAKS,
a textile workshop inspired by Charles Darwin’s research on Birds
Produce your own linen Valentine postcard for your loved one under the guidance of experienced tutor Wendy Riddick
Date: Friday 14 February 2020, cost £25 to include all materials and tea/coffee
Time: Start 11am, finish 4pm with an hour free for lunch (you are welcome to bring a packed lunch or visit one of the local cafes)
Students will use birds as an inspiration to produce a fabric postcard textile. These will be produced using sketching and colour blending techniques with water-soluble pencil crayons such as 'Inktense' and pen (optional). Further embellishment will be added with hand stitching and creative boarders which may include lace and beading. The workshop is suitable for both beginners and more experienced textile enthusiasts.
Materials are included and provided, but you are welcome to bring anything you feel may be useful, including your own images of birds, as source for inspiration and basic sewing kit.
