Time will tell!!

We believe that a decision on our £11.7m bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund will be made sometime tomorrow (24th).  However, the public announcement will be embargoed until May 11th.

The bid represents a tremendous opportunity to save and sustain these internationally important buildings and their heritage of the last 215 years.  The proposals also present exciting opportunities for the regeneration of North Shrewsbury  and beyond.  The site will become a centre for learning, culture, recreation and community activities.

Significant work has resulted in the identification of a number of potential end-users and the movement to the Development Stage of the project  would lead to many more wishing to occupy such an iconic, well serviced business centre.  Hence, the longer term viability of the project and the potential to move to the Master Plan for the whole site.

We, the Friends, are proud of the major contribution we have made to the bid not least in stimulating great interest, involvement and enthusiasm for the heritage.  We have worked with schools and colleges, provided guided tours for enormous numbers of groups and the general public, researched and interpreted the heritage.  We have provided external talks, open days while engaging with the community in all respects; not least in Flaxivity, our  activity centre for young people. The work of our Community Arts Group in drawing in artists and mounting exhibitons has been a major success story. We have established this website which averages 12 hits per day and we have Facebook with 1000 friends and a Twitter site.

Following the bid's success we look forward to building our capacity so as to increase our work in responding to the variety of audiences we know are following the project.  The bid further recognises our ambitions to  go on to take responsibility for the substantial areas designated for public access while further stimulating community involvement and visitor opportunities.

You will find the presentation we gave in February to a delegation from the HLF  on the home page.  Meanwhile please keep your fingers crossed for tomorrow!!
