In honour of World Book Day, the Friends of the Flaxmill Maltings invite families to join them on Saturday 7 March at the Visitor Centre, for fairy tale story telling with Lovely Land and a live flax spinning demonstration.
Clare from Lovely Land said “It is such a pleasure to be back at the Flaxmill Maltings, and I am looking forward to some intriguing storytelling.”
Of course Sleeping Beauty pricked her finger on a spinning wheel. But have you ever heard of the story of Rumpelstiltskin? And that of Mother Hulda? They have spinning as a key part of the story and can be somewhat scary – but in a good way. So wrap up warm and join us for sessions starting at 10.30am, 12.30pm and 2.30pm. Button & Bear Bookshop have kindly offered to supply books. The sessions are free to attend.
Marianne from the Friends of the Flaxmill Maltings said “We thought it would be nice to be able to show children the live action of flax spinning that you read about in so many fairy tales, so we encourage families to come join in, hear a story and find out about spinning from our volunteers.”
The Flaxmill Maltings Visitor Centre is open every Saturday between 10am and 4pm, although the site has had to close due to high winds for a few days now, so do check the website or social media before travelling. The coronet colouring competition results are still on view in the Dye House, and parking is available, or it’s just a short walk from the town centre.
